Do you want to confide in your best friend
for talk therapy, but you're afraid
of being completely honest?
Don't have a best friend?
Are you looking for an alternative to the
traditional therapy model?
Is your teen refusing therapy,
but needs a safe environment to vent?
Have you found coaching is too expensive,
or not covered by your insurance?
Do you really just need a listening ear?
Do you want less pressure and
a more relaxed atmosphere
for coaching and counseling?
THIS is UNTHERAPY!
Hello. My name is Barbara Shearer and I think there's a pretty good chance that one of my life experiences is going to relate to one of yours: family violence, addictions, divorce, blended families, mental illness, death of a child, and struggles with teen rebellion, social awkwardness, withdrawal. And that's not even an exhaustive list! However, through my own growth journey I've been given opportunity and love that have made it possible to open myself to others and, hopefully, help them on their journey.
I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. During the week I work closely with our clients at my husband's counseling practice, or I'm working with my own clients on their individual needs. We love what we do and spend a lot of our energy helping others. On the weekends, I'm usually working in my flowerbeds. We have three dogs, one of which is a therapy dog, and we enjoy traveling when we can squeeze it in!
Like ripples on the water when a stone breaks the surface, our words and actions move forward the moment they leave us and touch others in ways we may never realize.
It would be my greatest joy to have the opportunity to make positive ripples in your life. Ripples that empower you to do the things in your life that you want to do and take you from here to where you want to be.

Therapy without the therapy.
I can be a listening ear or offer direction...it's your choice. I can guide you through work on stress management, relationship issues, emotional intelligence, communication skills, or whatever area you feel needs your focus. I use conversation and visual aides to facilitate productive and effective options for growth.
I am a certified life coach and attend regular mental health training and conferences with my husband who has been serving as a Licensed Professional Counselor offering therapy for over 30 years. Most of what I have learned about mental health, coaching and counseling has come from him. I have taken college level courses in psychology,
I am a certified life coach and attend regular mental health training and conferences with my husband who has been serving as a Licensed Professional Counselor offering therapy for over 30 years. Most of what I have learned about mental health, coaching and counseling has come from him. I have taken college level courses in psychology, but do not have a degree in any mental health related field. I cannot and will not attempt to offer medical opinions. I am great at listening and conversations...my version of talk therapy!
Unlike some folks working as a "Life Coach", I will not try to get you to commit to something you may decide doesn't work for you. I won't ask you to make a financial commitment for sessions in advance and I won't ask you to sign up for any programs. If what we do together works, then you'll be back. I don't intend to obligate you to come in because you've paid in advance.
We are simply people gathering to find and offer support in the process of healing from the loss of a loved one. This is not a therapy group and we do not work a "program." We are a non-affiliated group of people from different backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences. We create talk therapy. This is a free group meeting the last Tuesday morning of the month.
I will never offer a professional or medical opinion. I am not trained or licensed to do that. However, if we feel you need services I cannot offer, my husband is a Licensed Professional Counselor who can either see you or offer a referral. If you need the services of a psychiatrist for medication management or prescriptions, we have an excellent recommendation available.
